Midian (Madyan) is the name of a people and their land in north-western Arabia, east of the Gulf of Aqaba. According to the Quran, the prophet Shu'ayb was sent to them and called on them to stop cheating in measure and weight (al-A'raf 7:85; Hud 11:84).
After leaving Egypt, Moses headed towards Midian (al-Qasas 28:22), where he married and stayed for years (Ta-Ha 20:40).
The town of Midian is generally identified with the area of al-Bad' in today's Saudi Arabia. Its Nabataean rock-cut tombs are popularly known as "Maghair Shu'ayb" (the Caves of Shu'ayb).
